Kinect for Xbox 360 is the Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device

I have been closely following the consumer electronics market for a while but it came as a complete surprise to me to know that Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360 is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device ever. I thought that Apple iPhone or even the ‘magical device’ Apple iPad are the best-selling and fastest-selling devices ever. However, Microsoft Corp says it has sold 10 million Xbox Kinect sensors, the hardware that allows controller-free gaming and helps people play video games using physical motion. Based on its first 60 days after being released, from 4 November 2010 to 3 January 2011, the sales averaged 133,333 units a day, for a total of 8 million units. The sales figures outstrip both the iPhone and the iPad for the equivalent periods after launch. Guinness World Records, the global authority on record breaking, recently confirmed that the Kinect for the Xbox 360 is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device, saying “The sales figures here speak for themselves. We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”
